Kültur Büro Barcelona & Spencer Tunick

Today, after finishing the working day… when Your Day, properly speaking, starts... I had the purpose to visit the Spencer Tunick Exhibition that takes place at Kültur Büro Barcelona.

I didn’t know anything about Tunick, until two years ago when a friend of mine explained me what was going about. In Barcelona the event was going to take place on 8th June 2003 in Montjuïc. My friend was firmly decided to take part of these controversial photographs. Finally for some reasons that now are beside the point, he didn’t participate in, probably, this unique happening in Barcelona. But, anyway, although I didn’t take part of it either, I really found very interesting the originality of making pictures with something as natural as naked bodys.

So, this summer when I realized that an exhibition of this artist was going to be installed, I didn’t doubt that I had to visit it. And today it has been the day.

More or less I had an idea of what I was going to see, which kind of pictures I was going to meet... but I didn’t have got any clue about the place where the exhibition was running...

This place is situated in the center of Barcelona, I would say in the middle of the Raval district.

When you arrive in the front door, you are in front of an industrial building with an old black blind as an entrance gate. Just go through the door and you will be in a damaged and dark entrance. Walking some metres you will have to decide if you want to take the lift or prefer climb up the stairs… After analising the situation, I just prefer this second option, just in case…

Peculiar staircase. High steps, but too short to put all your foot on one step. Each floor with damaged wood doors and a bend floor... But, finally you arrive at the 4th floor, where KBB exists.

Paying for the ticket the girl, an Enlish one, say me, that with the 2 Eur I could see the Exhibition and the terrace... Let’s see the Spencer Tunick Exhibition and afterwards I will take a glance to the terrace...

WOOOWWWWWWWW!!! After climbing a metal stepladder – abstain if you have vertigo – you arrive in Jamaica. An incredible terrace in the middle of Barcelona with a big sofa and an umbrella... You will find a pipe, in case you want to take a shower.... Ask to the barman-DJ boy (also an English one) for a beer... and relax, enjoy your drink and listen to the music, now reggae is playing!!

Sit down on the floor looking the people that wander about the terrace,... a guy that has taken a head-shower, a tourist girls that are talking and laughing, a couple that are driking their beers, three basque friends that are speaking about their lifes...

A special place to spend your afternoon waiting for the sunset and enjoying for living and finding these astonishing places that, at least, during some moments, help to you to forget everything of your ordinary life...

Being from nowhere and everywhere and a bit bohemian for some hours is a different way to take a breath.

Street Hockey

This last weekend not only I did the Mojito Route, I started to “play hockey”... Or better said, street hockey... Well in fact, I’m not able to say that That was hockey... Let’s see what it was...

I met with some of my mates in a Park near Villa Olimpica. They are really hooked on skates! They are worst than me! And the proof is all of them have bought a stick!

So, if you don’t want to go to the disco, either to the cinema, and of course not wanting to stay at home surfing the net or just watching TV... if you want to do something original, but don’t know what to do on Saturday night... Don’t be afraid! We have a plan for you... Go to Poble Nou, and play Street Hockey... No rules, no equipment, just a stick for each one and a puck... And if you haven’t got a stick and you are not sure if this game is going to fit you (so you don’t want to buy one)... don’t worry... somebody will lend you.... The object is spend a great time, hitting the puck, trying to make a goal and above all forgetting that you are on rollers... You will see that if you distract your attention from your feet to put it on a puck, you will be able to do lots of movements that you don’t dare when you are only skating. That’s the clue!

Finally, as always... people need eat & chat... And after a great match, we deserve a evening meal... a hamburger with cheese & onion and a pint of beer is a good option! Let’s go the Buty!

See you next Saturday baby! And... don’t forget the stick! I challenge you... to spend a great time!! ;-)
